After all the controversy with SOPA and PIPA earlier this and last year, it’s refrshing to see a new piece of legislation making it’s way through Congress. I am of course talking about the first American bill to actually support online sharing, namely the Support Online Archiving of Publications Act (or SOAPA for short). Everything you need to know about the Act is available at here (soapa.org), where you can also sign a petition that will be sent to the US State Department in support of the bill.

All we ask is that you take some time to read the information over at soapa.org and help raise awareness for this legislation that seeks to keep the internet free and uncensored in the future.

While this isn’t news about the site per se, it does impact many of our visitors. VLC is one of the most universal media players with built-in codecs. It is also cross-platform, free and open-source. It has been locked to the 1.x versioning for many years, but now the latest major release

This is a quick update to let you all know that we will shortly be transitioning the site from our .com domain, to our .eu TLD. Having completed a successful trial last year, we believe that we are now ready to make the move permanent, hopefully with minimal disruption and issue. Some of you may have noticed that we have already moved the forums and our images server. You can find out more information about our reasons for making the move and how it will affect you, below.

My apologies to those using the site today, as I am sure most of you are aware it was unusable for a good 20 hours. Unfortunately, as many of you are now aware, there is a rogue advert making the rounds on the website. We are doing our best to identify the source and once we do, will have it removed from the system. OneDDL prides itself in being one of the few websites out there that has clean, non-intrusive advertising and we hate it when this reputation comes under threat. We would therefore like to reassure users that we are doing everything in our power to resolve the issue and we ask that you be patient while we attempt to get to the bottom of it.

For those of you using BlockAid, we have informed them of the malicious URL in question and have been told that it has been blocked at DNS level and shouldn’t therefore cause you any trouble.

Many of you have asked us in the past, how we plan to stay online should our domain be confiscated. Until now, we have never really had a firm answer. Some of you are familiar with our alternative domains at .EU and .ME but the vast majority will likely be stranded should something happen to our main .COM domain.

Just a quick bit of news concerning a small contest we are running over at 99desgins. In the past, quite a few people have asked us if they could help support the site, but they usually leave disappointed with the response they receive because we don’t accept donations. We have always been able to support ourselves and in any case, OneDDL has never been about the money.
